Student Support Services Program is a Federal TRIO Program sponsored by the US Department of Education. The program provides support for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students towards the successful completion of their post secondary education. The goal of the program is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and help students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next.
City College is fortunate to have a SSS Program on its campus for the last twenty eight years... Over 500 students receive academic, financial and student development services each year. During the last five years, the students have included two Salutatorians, and a Valedictorian. Over the years, students have received presidential, departmental, and divisional awards. In May, three students received national awards that included the Jonas Salk Fellowship, Math for America Fellowship and an award from the Association of University Professional in Health Administration. The elected undergraduate student government President, Kenroy Cherrington, has been a member of the program since his freshman year. Students have served on departmental and student affairs' committees and served as interns in the neighboring communities.
The Program provides two major scholarships sponsored by a CCNY Alum Dr Arthur Zitrin ('38), a $5,000 scholarship for juniors and seniors. Freshmen and sophomores, with federal Pell Award, may apply for and receive up to $1,000 in Grant Aid.
