Assistive Technology Lab

Students registered with AAC are welcome to use our Assistive Technology Lab as a resource for researching information on the Internet and as a place to do homework. There are also three additional computers with assistive technology located in the Cohen Library.

Available Assistive Technology

PC and Mac computers offer a range of basic accessibility features and advanced assistive technologies designed to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities. Please contact AAC to schedule an individualized introduction to assistive technology with one of our AT specialists.

Software 

ZoomText Magnifier/Screen Reader (PC): Software designed specifically to meet the needs of the visually impaired. The ZoomText family includes two adaptive technologies—screen magnification and screen reading—providing complete access to all windows applications.

Jaws (PC): Screen reading software for the visually impaired and the blind.

Kurzweil 3000 (Mac and PC): A scanning, reading and writing solution for people with learning disabilities or reading difficulties.

Abby Fine Reader:a scanning, reading and writing solution for people with learning disabilities or reading difficulties.

Read & Write Gold:helps students with learning disabilities improve their reading and writing skills with a comprehensive set of literacy tools.

Inspiration: A software tool to help students develop ideas and organize their thoughts.

Dragon Naturally Speaking: Speech recognition software which converts spoken words into computerized text through the use of microphones.

Ginger: A writing and screen reading solution software that corrects grammar, that improves reading and writing for students with learning disabilities, and who speak English as a second language
