ACTING
Lonette McKee's Actor's Workshop
This ten-week course will cover character exploration and development, indepth scene study and development, backstage and onstage etiquette, the differences between acting techniques for film, television and stage and the do's and don'ts of the industry, as well as how to break into the fiercely competitive professional entertainment industry. Students will also get the basics of mounting a production as they prepare an "Evening of Scenes" which will showcase their scenes in a small professional performance with an invited audience at the end of the course.
This course is taught by producer, director, screenwriter, composer and singer, Lonette McKee. Some of Ms. McKee's film credits include; Learning Uncle Vincent, Honey and Honey 2; The Cotton Club and Gardens of Stone; Lift, for which she earned a Black Reel nomination. Other films include Men of Honor, Round Midnight, Jungle Fever, Malcolm X, He Got Game and She Hate Me. Television mini-series and films include Having Our Say, Queen and Women of Brewster Place, for which she received an NAACP nomination. Lonette also received a NAACP nomination for her appearances on the long-running CBS soap opera As the World Turns. McKee had a recurring role on the NBC drama Third Watch. She is producing her first feature film Dream Street, which she wrote and will direct.

Professional Communication (Public Speaking)
Public Speaking is one of the greatest human fears. It can include giving oral reports to small groups of people, representing an organization in networking settings or generating team spirit among colleagues. This course teachers its participants how to effectively communicate in professional settings. Facilitated by Craig Cobb, who has over fifteen years experience in professional communications. In this 18-hour course you will develop and deliver four (4) speeches.

The Heavy Sound
CPS is excited to introduce the first college campus DJ class!
The Heavy Sound, a premiere music/lifestyle brand that embraces a mission to showcase classical, vintage, and emerging music from new and established artists, deejays and musicians. Fall 2012, The Heavy Sound will facilitate a 30-hour DJ Workshop; 15 of these hours take place at the iconic Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture [515 Malcolm X Boulevard, New York, NY 10037], and 15 hours at the most diverse college campus in New York, CCNY- "The People's College". The course will feature some of music's legendary and acclaimed names and icons. You will learn the equipment and function of each machine; how to effectively utilize scratching and timing; how to operate Serato, Traktor Scratch Pro, CDJ's, vinyl mixing consoles, and other programs. It'snot all beats and buttons! You will also learn to read and understand agreements and contracts; cultivate and capitalize on funding; be a lucrative force in the business; discover the role and benefits of having a manager; and, the basics of copywriting your logo and building your brand.

Visual Storytelling
Not all directors, screenwriters, filmmakers, teachers, bloggers, and photojournalists have learned the art of storytelling and know how to tell a story visually even though their final product is built around and upon images. They have not learned and polished the skills of the Visual Storyteller. We offer this unique training for individuals who want to learn to make movies. Seek employment in broadcasting and other media, as well as those creating blogs and entrepreneurial use of the new technology. You will create vivid stories with digital images on your home PC of Mac. The skills learned translate readily into film and video projects. The Storytelling class will teach you to create, design, and produce stories using digital media to research, and write scripts. You will also learn storyboarding and shooting still and moving images with sound on a digital camera. You will edit on your home computer using narration, music, sound effects and titles to create compelling stories.

Writing Creatively For The Workplace
This seven week course teaches techniques for writing clear, concise and effective business documents such as memos, letters, emails, and reports. The focus of the course, however, is not only on the appropriate structure, grammar, and format of a business document, but also teaches you about tone and style so that you can write creatively within the confines of business communication. Learning how to write business documents creatively as well as correctly will enhance your job performance and help you move forward in your chosen field.
