NEW YORK, NY (November 7, 2005) – The Center for Worker Education (CWE) of City College is saddened to announce the sudden death of psychology professor Dr. Lawrence Plotkin. Dr. Plotkin, 84, passed away today, unexpectedly of a heart attack, according to his wife, Amy Sellwyn. “Larry will be greatly missed,” stated Dean Daniel E. Lemons. “He made a steady and memorable contribution to the academic program at CWE, and was a favorite professor.” For those who did not know Dr. Plotkin, he had retired over 20 years ago from the Psychology Department at City College uptown. He collaborated with Dr. Kenneth Clark on research from the 1940’s through the 1980’s. He decided to come out of retirement to teach at CWE in the mid-1980’s. Dr. Plotkin was currently teaching Psychological Testing. “He told me early in the term that this would be his last term of teaching,” said Dean Lemons. The Dean will soon announce a replacement to teach the course for the remaining part of the semester. A memorial service for Dr. Plokin was held at the Ethical Culture Society in January. Dr. Plotkin is survived by his wife, several children, step-children and several grandchildren.
