The Bilingual Education & TESOL Program offers the following graduate courses of study:

Bilingual Childhood teachers teach all content subjects (math, science, social studies, etc.) in English and/or another language. The program in Bilingual Childhood Education leads to a Master of Science in Education and a recommendation for New York State initial certification as a teacher of grades 1-6 (approx ages 6-12), as well as a Bilingual Extension in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Chinese.
Stream A: For students who hold Initial Certification and a Bilingual Extension (31 credits)
Stream C: For students who seek Initial Certification and a Bilingual Extension (43-52 credits)
Bilingual Childhood Education Fellows (Cohort 13 and 15)

This program prepares Bilingual Special Education teachers to address the educational, emotional, and behavioral needs of linguistically diverse students with a wide range of abilities and disabilities. The program leads to a Master of Science in Education, a recommendation for New York State certification in Special Education (grades 1-6) and a Bilingual Extension.
The Master's degree in Bilingual Special Education is offered jointly with the Special Education program.
Admission criteria, course requirements, and the number of credits required to complete the program vary:
Stream I: For students who hold Initial teaching certification and seek certification in Special Education and a Bilingual Extension. (43 credits)
Stream II: For students who seek Initial teaching certification in Special Education, and a Bilingual Extension. (47-56 credits)
Bilingual Special Education Fellows ( Cohorts 13/15)
Bilingual Special Education Fellows ( Cohort 18)
Bilingual (General) Education
Bilingual teachers teach all content subjects and age groups in English and/or another language.
Stream B: This course of study is for certified teachers who wish to earn a Master's degree and a recommendation for a Bilingual Extension in Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Chinese. The degree also leads to professional certification in the initial certification area.
Stream C: This course of study is for students who seek initial certification in Bilingual Childhood Education (Grades 1-6).
Stream D: For students who do not seek New York State teaching certification, but seek a Master's degree in Bilingual education. This course of study has considerable flexibility in course choices.
The Bilingual Extension is a certificate program that adds an extension to an existing certificate. No degree is granted, but students who successfully complete the program are recommended for a New York State Bilingual Extension in either Spanish, Haitian Creole, or Chinese.
The extension consists of 18 credits.

Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages teach students of all ages. We offer programs that lead to New York State certification (Grades Pre-K - 12), as well as a non-certification program (Stream B), appropriate for those who wish to teach adults and/or internationally.
Streams A, B, C, and Fellows streams lead to a Master of Science degree. Admission criteria, course requirements, and the number of credits required to complete the program vary according to the following:
Stream A: For students who hold certification in another area, and seek initial certification in TESOL.
Stream B: For students who do not seek New York State teaching certification. This program is appropriate for those who wish to teach adults and/or to teach internationally.
Stream C: For students who seek Initial Certification in TESOL. (Current TESOL Stream B students can download an application to apply to TESOL Stream C)
Fellows: For NYC Teaching Fellows who hold Transitional B Teaching Certification.
