Admissions:: Graduate Degrees & Certificates

The City College of New York offers high quality, broad-based, graduate education at the Masters degree and certificate levels in the traditional and newly emerging multidisciplinary engineering fields. Our faculty are internationally recognized for their excellence in teaching and path-breaking research. Our academic departments and research institutes are equipped with state-of-the art laboratories and research facilities.

Masters Programs Offered
The Grove School of Engineering offers programs of study leading to Master of Science and Master of Engineering degrees in six areas:

Biomedical Engineering
Chemical Engineering
Civil Engineering
Computer Science
Electrical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Master of Information Systems (MIS)

Masters Degree Admission & Requirements
Admissions:
The basic requirements to enter the program include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education, usually with a ‘B’ average in the major field, and one letter of recommendation, preferably from a faculty member who is familiar with the student work. International students must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Examination. A minimum score of 500 (173 Computer based,or 68 Internet Based Testing) is required. Applicants whose scholastic record is considered inconclusive may be required to take undergraduate courses in their fields of specialty, without credit, as conditions for admission to the program.

Degree Requirements:
The master’s degree requires satisfactory completion of 30 credits of approved graduate course work with a minimum average grade of B (GPA = 3.0 out of 4.0).Students are also required to complete any one of the following: a thesis (up to 6 credits), a project (3 credits), a report (no credit), or a seminar (1 credit).
Graduate Certificate Program
The Grove School of Engineering offers programs leading to Advanced Certificates in special topics of Civil Engineering and Engineering Management. Acceptable undergraduate preparation is required to enter the program. Applicants may use the Master degree application form given below.

Civil Engineering

Advanced Certificate in special topics is awarded upon satisfactory completion (minimum G.P.A. of 3.0) of 12 credits of prescribed Professional Master's degree courses that constitute coursework for a specific special topic certificate program.
