Evaluation and Guidelines
The evaluation of applications for admission primarily involves the
CCNY Office of the Admissions. The Admissions Office evaluates the applicant’s credentials to determine whether or not admissions requirements as set forth in The City College of New York Undergraduate Bulletin have been met before granting admission to the applicant.
If the applicant is admitted as a freshman, then he or she has to sit for the CCNY Placement Test which is conducted by the CCNY Office of Testing. The test demonstrates the student’s proficiency in Math and English and its results are essential when the student is advised on classes that should be taken during the student’s first semester at the City College. If the student’s English proficiency is limited and his/her TOEFL score is not high enough to satisfy the CCNY admissions requirements, then the student is required to take ESL courses until his or her proficiency is high enough to proceed with the EE curriculum.
The most important fact about getting into the City College School of Engineering is also the most obvious one: first you have to get into City College. Details are given elsewhere; we'll give you a brief rundown of the re quired steps here, together with an idea of what's supposed to happen as you perform the steps and what to do if it doesn't happen. The process begins with obtaining, filling out, and returning an application form, but that's not where it ends. What happens next depends to a great extent on whether you're a matriculated or non-matriculated student:
A matriculated student is a student who is taking courses in order to obtain a college degree at City College.
A non-matriculated student is a student who is taking courses for any other reason.
What happens, though, if you want to matriculate and you're admitted to City College but not to the School of Engineering? Don't worry. See a School of Engineering (Room: T - 209) advisor as soon as possible; we'll tell you what you have to do to get in and what courses to take in the meantime.
