Neal G. Ten Eyck is originally from Rochester, NY has worked in Seattle and Japan before moving back to New York and settling in Brooklyn where he has been based for the past 7 years. He was a professional stills photographer for 5 years before he decided he wanted to use film making as a medium of expression.
Neal chose City College because it offers a fine BFA Film Program, superior in many respects to many schools he considered. Although he has a lot of practical self taught experience the academic environment is appealing because it allows him to explore the medium of film from the artistic, writing, production and technical viewpoints. Neal was also influenced by the architecture and grounds of City College – a true sign of a born location scout.
He feels he made the right choice because the faculty and staff of the film Program and within the Media and Creative Arts Department as a whole are very talented professionals, dedicated to the welfare and advancement of their students.
Neal directed John Patrick Shanley's play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea as part of his course work. As the proprietor of Black Eye Blue Productions he has shot and edited conferences for the United Nations and the Museum of Art and Design. He has been director of photography, editor and director for numerous documentaries, fictional films, music videos and promotional trailers for various clients.
Currently working as an intern with RAINLAKE PRODUCTIONS, an award-winning independent production company focusing on highlighting compelling human stories, Neal is enthusiastic about the professionalism and the camaraderie of his colleagues there. He hopes that this internship, his artistic background in still photography, and his previous extensive experience in film, editing and production in combination with the strong Program in City College will provide him with the resources he needs to have a successful career in the film industry.
Neal is President of the Cinema Society in City College and plans on being awarded money by as yet unknown bountiful source to produce and make a full feature followed by fame and world recognition.
As he quips "I mean that's what you get after a BFA, right?" He has a great sense of humor, evident in this and many other comments which will help him in his professional career which may include the strands of director, cinematographer or producer.
