Degree Requirements

To receive the B.S. in Chemistry, majors must pass all of their Chemistry courses with a grade of C or higher.  To see the requirements for a concentration, follow the link to the page.

Declaration of the Chemistry Major

Requirements for Declaration of Major (before completing 20 credits)

Required:    Chem 10301 with a grade of B or better

Taking or Completed:
Chem 10401 and Math 20100

GPA:    3.0 or greater

Requirements for Declaration of Major (after completing 20 credits)

Required:    Chem 10301, 10401; Math 20100

Taking or Completed:
Chem 26100, Math 20200 

Recommended

Minimum GPA:
2.5 or greater

Majors must maintain a grade of C in all science courses, and should have an overall GPA of at least 2.0.

Students are strongly urged to declare the major as early as possible.  This will allow the Chemistry Department to assign you ta a major advisor who will help you to select courses and inform you of departmental activities.  The advisor will also monitor your progress at CCNY.

Also, you should check out the Baskerville Chemical Society (BCS), a club with undergraduate members who an interest in chemistry or chemistry related fields.  BCS meets during club hours.  Please see the display case by MR 2 for details.

Core Curriculum/General Education Requirements*

Students who entered City College before Fall 2008 must follow the
Core Curriculum from the 2005-2007 CCNY bulletin.

Students entering City College Fall 2008 and after must fulfill the
General Education Requirements for the B.S.

*NOTE
ALL CHEMISTRY MAJORS, REGARDLESS OF ENTRY DATE, MUST TAKE THE FOLLOWING MATH AND PHYSICS SEQUENCES:
