Academic guidance and Career Counseling – A health professions advisor works closely with all students from the time of their entry into the program. Students receive help in selecting courses, choosing careers and preparing applications to professional schools.
Student Support – PPS students may receive tutoring in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics and mathematics. Other support includes workshops and mini courses in college skills and the basic sciences.
Seminars and Symposia – PPS students participate in seminars and symposia led by faculty from the Division of Science as well as representatives of medical and dental school admissions committees and distinguished guests active in biomedical research.
Undergraduate Research – Qualified juniors and seniors are encouraged to do research in biochemistry, biology, chemistry, physics or psychology. Many of these students receive research stipends through grants awarded to City College faculty and the Division of Science. Students work closely with faculty, many of whom are involved in cutting-edge research, using the most up-to-date techniques and equipment. Students often present their research at local and national scientific meetings and publish in leading scientific journals.
Internship Opportunities – PPS students are strongly encouraged to accepting field assignments in hospitals, community health centers or research laboratories.
Preparation for MCATs – Pre-MCAT testing and MCAT review is provided to PPS students. Also, thanks to the ongoing support of CCNY alumni, Stanley Kaplan, all CCNY students receive a 50% discount on Kaplan prep course for the MCAT.
