The Sleep Laboratory

The Sleep Laboratory, located on the 8th floor of the NAC building, contains six sound-attenuating bedrooms to test participants who spend a night asleep. Each chamber allows recording of electroencephalographic (EEG) signals (brain waves) to monitor separate stages of sleep. Each chamber also includes computer equipment that is used when participants are asked to perform simple cognitive tasks, such as memory recall, after being awakened during the night. Researchers can view signals from a command center within the laboratory. The sleep laboratory also contains a kitchen, bathrooms, showers, and an electronic shop.
