THE WRITING CENTER
Writing proficiency is a graduation requirement. Writing is also a skill that is essential to success in a profession or in the business field. It is also expected that college-educated job applicants will be able to write. Writing is both an art and a craft and it is possible to learn how to write better. Students who want to improve their writing skills may want to visit the CCNY Writing Center. The Writing Center can provide resources to help students at all levels with their writing proficiency, whether a student is learning English as a second language or thinks of him or herself as a “good” writer, the Writing Center has resources that can help. The Writing Center might also be called the “Study Center” because some of the help available there can help you learn how to study better, take written tests better and get to know your faculty better. The Writing Center works closely with selected faculty in all departments to help students write better papers. The Writing Center uses trained, advanced undergraduate and graduate students to provide individual tutorials and workshops to undergraduates on writing and learning. The Center also offers computer literacy courses and computers are available. Appointments are recommended but students can drop by the Center without an appointment also. The Writing Center is located in the Rudin Center, 212-650-8104; check each semester for a schedule of hours.
