Anthony F. Andrade
Doctor of Humane Letters
Mr. Anthony F. Andrade is an active civic and business leader. He is Founder and President of A&H Printing in Rhode Island. He is also a partner in Legg Mason, one of the largest investment firms in America. He was CEO of Universal Press until 1998, a company that he acquired and turned into the largest printer in New England, with a national reputation for quality printing.
Mr. Andrade serves on the Board of Directors of BankRI and has served on the Board of Directors of PALCUS (Portuguese-American Leadership Council of the United States), a national organization located in Washington, D. C. He is also past president of Fundação Beneficente Faialense, and has served on boards of several other organizations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including the International Institute of Rhode Island.
His contributions to the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth played a major role in the development of the Center for Portuguese Study and Culture. He is a founding member of the Center's Advisory Board, and, more recently, he played a leading role in the creation of the Endowed Chair in Portuguese Studies, one of the first two chairs ever founded at UMass Dartmouth.
Mr. Andrade was born in the Azores, Portugal, and immigrated to the United States at the age of 14. He has lived the American dream and has worked tirelessly to make that dream accessible to others.
