Ronald B. Goodspeed, MD, MPH, FACP, FACPE

Ronald B. Goodspeed, MD, MPH, FACP, FACPE, is President of Southcoast Hospitals Group, a subsidiary of Southcoast Health System, and Executive Vice President of Southcoast Health System.

Dr. Goodspeed has been President of Charlton Memorial Hospital since January 1995. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer/Executive Vice Presidentof Charlton from April 1991 to December 1994. He joined Charlton in January 1990 as Vice President of Medical Affairs.

Prior to joining Charlton Memorial Hospital, Dr. Goodspeed served as Assistant Vice President and Medical Director at CIGNA Corporation. He also served on the full-time faculty as Assistant Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine in Farmington, Conn. In addition, Dr. Goodspeed had been in a private group practice in internal medicine.

Dr. Goodspeed has published more than 45 articles, abstracts and book chapters inthe health care field. He serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Ambulatory Care Management, and has served as a reviewer for the ACPE Cost Management and Quality Improvement awards for the past two years.

In 2006 he was named President of the Board of Directors for the Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors. He was selected because of his "credentials, experience and dedication to quality patient care [are] invaluable as the coalition works to educate the health care industry about best practices in preventing medical errors," said Paula Griswold, Executive Director, Massachusetts Coalition for the Prevention of Medical Errors.

Dr. Goodspeed is also currently the Chairman of the Massachusetts Hospital Association Advisory Committee to Develop a Curriculum for Hospital Trustees on Quality and Patient Safety and a member of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health & Human Services team on Health Care Quality Improvement.

Dr. Goodspeed earned a bachelor of science degree from the College of Pharmacy of Union University in Albany, N.Y., a medical degree from Albany Medical College of Union University and a master's degree in Public Health from the University of Connecticut. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the American Board of Medical Management and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.
