John. W. Rowe

John W. Rowe is president and CEO of one of the nation's largest electric utilities, with approximately 5 million customers and more than $12 billion in annual revenues. Prior to the formation of Exelon Corp., which was created in October 2000 through merger of Unicorn Corporation and PECO Energy, he was the chief executive of Unicom and Commonwealth Edison Co.

From 1989-1998, Mr. Rowe was president and chief executive officer of the New England Electric System (NEES). Under his leadership, NEES adopted a progressive response to environmental concerns and earned The President's Environmental and Conservation Challenge Award for its conservation efforts. Before joining NEES, Mr. Rowe held leadership positions at Central Maine Power Company and Consolidated Rail Corporation (Conrail) in Philadelphia.

Mr. Rowe graduated from the University of Wisconsin and University of Wisconsin Law School and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif. He serves on a number of boards, including Fleet Boston Financial, Wisconsin Central Transportation, and UnumProvident Corporation. Mr. Rowe is also chairman of the Edison Electric Institute, a trustee of Northwestern University, and on the Board of Trustees at The Art Institute of Chicago, The Chicago Historical Society, The American Enterprise Institute, and the Illinois chapter of the Nature Conservancy.
