Biography:

David A. Brown received his MS and PhD degrees from the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California working in the area of fiber optic interferometric sensors and arrays for naval applications. He advised graduate students at NPS through 1993 and conducted research for the Naval Sea Systems Command as a Research Assistant Professor. In 1993 he accepted a Visiting Professor appointment at Brown University with a concurrent visiting scientist/engineer appointment at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) in New London. In 1995 he accepted a faculty position at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering to support the growth of the Marine focus in graduate programs and subsequently was appointed Full Professor in 2001. He also holds positions as Adjunct Professor of Physics and Director of the Electro-Acoustic Research Laboratory at the ATMC. Professor Brown maintains an active research group involving graduate and undergraduate students in acoustic transduction and has attracted and managed research grants from the Office of Naval Research.
