Biography:
Robert Helgeland is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Prof. Helgeland received the BSEE Degree in 1968 from Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute (now UMD) and the MSEE Degree from Northeastern University in 1970. In 1971, he joined the faculty of the Department of Electrical Engineering, teaching primarily in the Electrical Engineering Technology Program. He held a joint appointment in the Electrical Engineering and Electrical Engineering Technology Departments from 1981 to 1999 and served as the Chairperson of the Electrical Engineering Technology Department from 1991 – 1999.His teaching experience includes courses in Circuits, Electronics, Electromechanical Energy Conversion, and Power Electronics, and he has been active in developing course materials for the IMPULSE Program. He has also served as a faculty advisor to several Senior Design Projects.
He has extensive experience in the area of marine electronics, including navigation, communication, sonar, vessel control, and radar systems, and is a Registered Professional Engineer.
His present areas of interest include Circuits and Simulation, Power Electronics, Electromechanical Energy Conversion, and Vehicle Tracking using the Global Positioning System.
Prof. Helgeland is a member of IEEE, ASEE, and NSPE.
