Diversity on campus Parties and Relationships Aids scare   Final words

Quite often, I felt the same way. You see, as I mentioned before, there weren't a lot of minority students on campus freshman year. So, most of the time, especially at the end of each semester, I'd attend some of the local parties off campus.

Well, needless to say that whole scene just wasn't for me. I mean, the music was too loud, no one could or even wanted to dance. All they did was stand around and drink beer. Now that's not my kind of party. I like to get down, you know what I mean, Move to the music! At some of those parties, I've got to admit, I met a lot of interesting people. One of them was Crystal. And believe you me, it was love at first sight.

Throughout our relationship, one of the things I admired the most about Crystal was her keen awareness of Black History, and her willingness to share her knowledge of the historical contributions people of color, you know - Hispanics, Native Americans, Blacks - have made in helping this country grow. Crystal was like a walking Britannica on Black History.

Sometimes, however, she did get a little frustrated with people who often talked about the importance of diversity and multiculturalism, but who were never seriously interested in doing away with racism, sexism or other forms of oppression. She's going to make a great lawyer one of these days.
