Tina L. Kandakai, PhD- Director of the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement

Tina L. Kandakai is the founding Director of the Office of Experiential Education and Civic Engagement. She received a bachelor, master, and doctorate in Health Education from the University of Toledo, in Toledo, Ohio. Dr. Kandakai has had more than 15 years of experience in higher education including 10 years of teaching courses in health education and promotion. Although the term "experiential education" is not colloquial to her expertise in Public Health, she finds civic engagement and community outreach as critical components to each. Thus, her roll in leading the experiential education initiative at Kent State is a natural fit for her talents. At the forefront, Dr. Kandakai serves as a conduit to communities, helps develop collaborations between faculty and community agencies in need of skilled support, and offers engaging learning environments to students. Her scholarly interests include exploring the impact of public and community capacity on addressing violence and victimization of women and children.

Anne Marie Lucas, Graduate Assistant- Experiential Education Program & Research Assistant

Anne Marie assists faculty, students and community partners in accessing engaged learning programs, projects and activities. She is currently coordinating the Summer Immersion Internship program as well as assisting with the Visiting Scholars Program, Destination Kent State and an Upward Bound activity. She also compiles data to track Kent State’s commitment to Experiential Learning for internal study and Kent State’s 2014 Carnegie Foundation Re-Classification. Lastly, she assists with the assessment and evaluation of OEECE programs and activities.  Anne Marie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Conflict Management from Kent State. She is pursuing a Masters degree in Cultural Foundations with focus on Conflict Resolution Transformation Education. Her ultimate career goal is to teach at the collegiate level while conducting Participatory Action Research internationally. .

Bharat Chaturvedi, Graduate Assistant- Experiential Learning Research Assistant

As a Research Assistant, Bharat assists in conducting data analysis on various research of experiential learning. He also helps develop surveys and a variety of forms for experiential education courses and programs. He earned a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from India in 2010 and is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Health Policy and Management at Kent State University.
