Applying to a Graduate Program
You have decided to apply to Kent State University, one of Ohio’s top universities. Kent State offers graduate programs in a variety of academic areas, including more than 50 master’s programs in more than 100 areas of specialization as well as 23 doctoral programs with more than 50 specializations.

The application process continues here if you are seeking to complete a graduate application and are a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident. If you are an International student, please use the International Application to apply for admission.

Carefully read the descriptions below and determine which one best fits your profile.

Master’s Degree Application

Choose this option if:
  • You have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution or have met the requirements for a baccalaureate degree that will be awarded prior to beginning your graduate study. Kent State University is authorized to grant 14 master’s degrees in more than 200 areas of concentration.

Online Degrees & Certificate Programs

Choose this option if:
  • You would like to apply to a graduate program where classes can be taken completely online.

Doctoral

Choose this option if:
  • You have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • You have earned a Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution, (Certain exclusions may apply; please consult the graduate catalog to verify requirements for specific programs).
  • You are interested in becoming a professional scholar, college and university teacher, or independent researcher in private, industrial or governmental research institutions.

Non-Degree Application

Choose this option if:
  • You have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • You do not want to earn a graduate degree, but do want to take a limited number of graduate courses for self-improvement, intellectual curiosity or expansion of areas of professional expertise.

Guest Application

Choose this option if:
  • You have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • You want to take a limited number of courses at Kent State University, but do not currently have an interest in pursuing a degree.
  • You have taken fewer than six graduate course hours at Kent State University in the past.

Reapplication

Choose this option if:
  • You have already earned a graduate degree from Kent State University and want to continue in graduate coursework without pursuing another degree program.
  • You don’t want to earn a graduate degree, but do want to take a limited number of graduate courses for self-improvement, intellectual curiosity or expansion of areas of professional expertise.

Certificate

Choose this option if:
  • You are a graduate degree-seeking or graduate non-degree student and want to earn a certificate in a specific area. Graduate certificate programs deliver focused instruction and formalized guidance in a flexible manner.

Transient

Choose this option if:
  • You are enrolled in a graduate degree program in good standing at another university and want to take coursework from Kent State University.

Educational Specialist

Choose this option if:
  • You already hold a master’s degree and are seeking an educational specialist degree (Ed.S.).
