Vice President for Institutional Advancement
Stephen G. Sokany
Stephen G. Sokany is Kent State University’s Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement. As a member of the president’s cabinet, he is responsible for the university’s Office of Institutional Advancement, which includes leadership and major gift fundraising staff, corporate and foundation relations, estate and gift planning and all advancement services areas. The Office of Alumni Relations also reports to Steve. He also serves as the executive director of the Kent State University Foundation.
Prior to his current assignment as interim vice president, Mr. Sokany served as the number two person in the division and supported the vice president’s goals and objectives for the division and the Kent State University Foundation.
Throughout his more than 20 years at Kent State, Mr. Sokany has contributed to the continued growth and maturation of the Institutional Advancement program. As Campaign Manager for The Campaign for Kent State University, he assisted with the overall management of the university’s first comprehensive capital campaign which raised more than $122 million, exceeding the $100 million goal. Specific accomplishments include the Campaign for the Liquid Crystal Institute, the Moulton Hall Campaign and the Founders Scholars Program. Mr. Sokany’s team, whose core responsibilities have been to identify, cultivate and solicit major and leadership gifts in support of the university’s priorities, grew to a group of 25 professionals during his role as Senior Associate Vice President.
In addition to his professional responsibilities at Kent State, Mr. Sokany served on the Board of Directors of the Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland and is co-chair of the Board of Directors of Gay Games 9, which will be held in Cleveland and Akron in August 2014.
