THANKS2U

IMAGE: THANKS2U logo
Bringing donors and the students they support together over lunch or dinner is one of the best ways we know to say “thank you.” Here are a few stories about our generous benefactors and the students whose lives they’ve touched, and changed, for the better.

Mary and Reed Brown are helping students follow their dreams

"You may be only one person in this world, but to one person at one time, you are the world." – Anonymous

Right now, Mary Brown, '53,'66, is the world to Kent State University junior conservation major and honors student, Katie Tuscano. Because of the Mary and Reed Brown Founders Scholarship in Biology, which Mary and her late husband Reed endowed, the tremendous financial burden of paying for college has been lifted from Katie's shoulders.

Being a full-time student, wife and mother to a two-year-old is challenging. But Kent State University student, Jessica Pugliese, still anticipates graduating in Spring 2015. Jessica’s hard work and dedication to her future are two reasons her goal is in sight. But another tremendous factor of her success is the scholarships she has received from Kent State University, made possible by the generosity of donors like Kent State alumna, (Katherine) Ann Wagnitz.

The Rolland and Marilyn Walk Scholarship in Business Administration

An interesting thing happened when Rolland "Rollie" Walk met Erika Hoot — they discovered that their goals in business were very similar, even though they were many years apart in age. Rolland graduated from Kent State in 1955 with a degree in management science. Erika will graduate in 2014 with a major in entrepreneurship and minors in international business and marketing.

Scholarship for the College of Business

Lellan "Mac" McFarland '80 EMBA, and his wife of 52 years, Carol, have greatly enjoyed the relationship they have with their student scholarship recipient, Lauren Marcelonis, a senior in managerial marketing. The McFarlands created their gift in 2003 for students enrolled in the College of Business. The renewable scholarship has enabled them to enjoy a sustained relationship with Lauren for almost three years. "We think of her as part of the family," Mac and Carol said recently, proudly noting that Lauren maintains a 3.8 GPA and is an excellent student.
