The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Art prepares students to function in a variety of artistic roles. Specifically, the goals of the program are to develop technical skills, competence in the use of media, artistic sensibility and responsiveness to aesthetic form. Students must know the major achievements and achievers in the history of art and must understand contemporary art forms and their underlying theories. They must also be able to assess the quality of works of art and the intellectual value of contemporary theory and criticism.

The more general Bachelor of Art in Fine Art degree is for students who do not wish to pursue making art as a profession but desire a solid foundation and breadth in the visual arts, within a liberat arts curriculum, for arts-related careers and to become a well-informed arts supporter and consumer.

The Minor in Fine Art ("Studio Art") comprises 21 credits, including ARTF 14000 (Drawing I), ARTF 14055 (Sculpture I), ARTF 14060 (Painting I), and ARTF 24040 (Printmaking I), plus an additional 9 credits in fine art courses (prefix ARTF). To add this minor to your official transcript, please begin in the office of Advising and Academic Services in the College of the Arts, 202C Taylor Hall.
