Welcome

At Kent State University’s School of Art, you get access to faculty with experience in the real world of art. Our programs are tailored to your individual interests. You can explore your creative skills while obtaining professional knowledge in your field. As a prospective student, you’re invited to make a campus visit to explore opportunities at Kent State University through the Office of Admissions or the College of the Arts.

Admission to the School of Art doesn't require a portfolio, but if you have AP scores of 4 or 5 on the Art Examination you could receive credit towards graduation if you complete a successful portfolio review. AP Studio Art credits may be used as Art electives but not as Art requirements. Portfolio reviews are scheduled regularly throughout the semester and over the summer. We suggest that you wait until you have most of your senior year's work to show before scheduling a formal portfolio review. To schedule a portfolio review, please contact Maria Robertson at 330-672-1363 or mrobert9@kent.edu.

The School of Art offers a limited number of scholarships for incoming art majors; the Scholastic Art Award is made through the competitive high school competition held each January on the Kent State University at Stark campus. In addition, the School of Art awards  scholarships for enrolled students from the general scholarship fund each year. Dates for submission of materials for competition are announced each spring and awards made to enrolled students at any undergraduate level. For additional scholarships and awards available through the School of Art, visit the Office of Student Financial Aid.

Art majors who also enroll in the Honors College (qualifying by meeting certain grade and ACT/SAT criteria) may apply for the Creative Artist Awards.  If you have not yet received a letter from the Honors College and believe you qualify, contact Aaron Hanlin at ahanlin1@kent.edu in Honors.
