Beyond the Classroom

Our full-time MBA program offers many learning experiences beyond the classroom, including:
Case Competitions
Kent State University's MBA students have the opportunity to gain enriching professional experience and exposure by competing with some of the best business schools in the world, in both local and international MBA Case Competitions.

John Molson MBA International Case Competition- The John Molson MBA International Case Competition is a not-for-profit event organized by a team of four MBA students from the John Molson School of Business. The competition is open to top business schools worldwide, and is recognized as the largest competition of its kind. Its main purpose is to bridge the gap between corporate and academic worlds, which ultimately enriches both students and executives alike.

Association for Corporate Growth Premier MBA Competition- The ACG Cup is a case study competition designed to give students from leading MBA programs across the country real world experience and invaluable insights into mergers and acquisitions, investment banking, financial advisory and private equity.  Each case study provides students with a unique opportunity to present valuation, capital markets and M&A strategic advice to a panel of seasoned M&A professionals from within the ACG community.

KeyBank Foundation Minority MBA Case Competition- Presenting teams selected for participation in this minority MBA student case competition must be ethnically diverse. Each Team must be composed of three presenting members plus one alternate member.  Teams present their analysis and recommendations on a real-life case to a panel of banking executives and officers.  1st through 4th place winners receive plaques and team scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $6,000.

MBA students are encouraged to earn (elective) credit by participating in paid summer internships with national and multi-national firms, as well as larger non-profit organizations, headquartered in our region.  Our Business Experiences Office assists students in finding these valuable career building experiences.

Business Experiences Office
Mentorship Program

Full-time MBA students are paired with a mid or top-level executive in the field of their interest for the academic year.  These mentors become a source of career advice and connections throughout the program and beyond.

Professional Development Opportunities

A professional development component is built into the Full-time MBA curriculum and includes many different training workshops and activities. Topics include public speaking and presentation skills, career planning, interviewing skills, resume clinics, business etiquette luncheons, and more.

Other Career and Networking Events

From on-campus company information sessions, to MBA Career Fairs, to guest speakers, industry conferences, and alumni panels, we provide our students with ample opportunities to meet and network with business leaders from a wide variety of organizations.

International Experiences

Our Global Management Center provides MBA students with numerous opportunities for exposure to the global business environment, including an international lecture series, international study-abroad trips, and international case competitions.

International Business Experience (IBE) - The Graduate Programs Office and College of Continuing Studies offers Kent State graduate business students the opportunity to study abroad in Switzerland and France to gain first hand exposure to international businesses. The two week trip includes class lectures, visits to international businesses, and cultural excursions in Geneva, Paris, and surrounding cities.  The IBE trip takes place during the summer Intersession in May-June. Students receive 3 graduate credit hours for completing the course.

Rennes - While pursuing the MBA at Kent State, students have the opportunity to spend a semester or an academic year at Groupe ESC Rennes in France and earn a second master's certificate or degree.  Rennes, a city of 350,000 and the capital of Brittany in Northern France, is the home of 50,000 university students.  Students will pursue their MBA core courses at the Kent Campus during the first academic year.  During the second year, the student will take strategy, international and elective coursework at Rennes.  Students pay the same rate of tuition as they do at the Kent Campus.

Entrepreneurial Experiences

Our Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation offers experiential learning opportunities through the Entrepreneurship Lab, business plan competitions, and as an incubator for student run businesses.
