Beta Alpha Psi

The primary objectives of the Beta Psi chapter are:

  • To encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field.
  • To show accounting, management and information systems, and finance majors the wide variety of job opportunities available encompassing public, corporate, and governmental careers.
  • To further the study and the practice of accounting among the members, and to promote professional and social interaction between members, business professionals, faculty, and alumni through weekly activities.
  • Provide opportunities for self-development and association among members and practicing financial professionals.
  • Encourage a sense of ethical, social, and public responsibilities.

Membership Requirements

According to the Beta Alpha Psi Constitution, the official requirements for membership are as follows:

Section 1.The membership of this fraternity shall be limited to those persons who have achieved scholastic and/or professional excellence in the fields of accounting, finance or information systems.
Section 2. The members of this fraternity shall be those persons who have been initiated according to the official ritual, have paid required fees, and are in good standing.
Section 3. Membership shall be open to all persons regardless of race, color, sex, religion, disability, national origin, or veteran status.
Section 4. Membership shall be evidenced by a certificate of membership, authenticated by official signatures and the seal of the fraternity, that shall be issued to each Student, Faculty, and Honorary initiate upon payment of the initiation fee.
Section 5. Membership shall consist of five categories: Student, Faculty, Alumnus, Honorary, and Pledges. Students who have graduated and faculty who have terminated their employment shall become Alumni members.
Section 6. Membership may be terminated by resignation or expulsion.

Additionally, the Beta Psi Chapter requires that all members must:

  • Have completed in one junior level course: accounting, information systems, or finance.
  • Have a minimum 3.00 GPA at Kent State University and in all upper-division courses.
  • Complete the BAP pledge program.
  • Actively participate as a pledge and member, which includes ten hours of community service per semester, ten professional hours per semester, and attend two social events per semester.

Pledge Requirements

To become a Beta Alpha Psi pledge, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have declared a major in accounting, finance or information systems (or have stated an intention to declare a major in accounting, finance, or information systems)
  • Have enrolled in one junior level course in accounting, finance, or information systems
  • Have attained a cumulative grade average of at least 3.0 (where A is equal to 4.0) or the equivalent

Pledges are required to complete the process to become a member when the membership requirements are met.


About Weekly Meetings
Weekly meetings include professional and technical presentations by accountants from a variety of environments and general organization updates.  Some of the professional presenters include:
  • "Big Four" firms: KPMG, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and PwC
  • National, regional and local CPA firms
  • Fortune 500 companies
  • FBI and IRS Agents
In addition, social activities occur at meetings and throughout the years.  All weekly meetings include interaction with professionals, faculty, accounting organizations, and other business students.

Social Events
In addition to our weekly meetings we have numerous community service activities, an annual golf outing with professionals and alumni, an annual formal awards banquet, and other social outings (bowling, Cedar Point, broom hockey, basketball games).

Dues

Dues for membership are as follows:

  1. $55 to become a pledge
  2. $55 to be initiated as a member

Membership Dues are used to fund various activities that all members can take part in.
