What is the Mentorship Program? The mentorship program is a unique opportunity for learning community students to connect with experienced business professionals. Students are paired with a professional mentor who works in a field related to the student's interests. Students are also matched with an upperclass business student who will serve as a resource during their first year and can assist with the transition to college along with navigating their major and business courses.
This program provides students direct access to important resources as well as access to a support system during critical stages of their academic and career development. Early in the fall semester, students have the opportunity to meet their professional and peer mentors and begin developing their mentoring relationship. Mentors and students are encouraged to connect throughout the fall semester. Some of these relationships have even continued on into students' junior and senior years!
Three Roles in the Mentorship Program:
The role of the professional mentor is to be a resource for the mentee. They should share experiences and knowledge about careers, industries, and other various topics of interest to the student. Act as a role model for students and help teach them the importance of networking and professionalism. Assist students in establishing their career goals and help them reach it.
Peer mentors are responsible for being a collegiate and academic role model to the mentees. They should demonstrate qualities successful collegiate students possess. These upperclassmen should aid the mentees in their transition from high school to college and assist students in their academic goals. We expect peer mentors to be active participants in the program and be committed to their mentees.
As a mentee, we expect that you actively communicate with your professional mentor, and should you choose to have one, your peer mentor. Mentees should be active participants in the program and maintain the commitments they make with their mentors. We want the mentees to grow throughout the program and utilize the resources available to create better networks to aid in career and academic development
