Application Requirements for CAED Master Degree Programs

Applications must be submitted online through the Kent State University admissions website:
http://www.kent.edu/admissions/graduate. 

In addition to Kent State University general requirements (minimum GPA = 3.00), admission to the programs is administered through the CAED Graduate Studies Committee and is based on:
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Original Transcripts from colleges previously attended
  • Undergraduate GPA
  • GRE Scores
  • Letters of Reference
  • Portfolio of design work

Statement of Purpose:

For all CAED graduate programs except the MSAED:
The Statement of Purpose should be one page maximum, and include your educational and career goals, including research and/or concentration interests. Also indicate which option the application is for (e.g. M.Arch degree, MHCD degree or M.Arch/MBA dual degree in Kent; MLA I degree, MLA II degree, MUD degree, M.Arch/MUD dual degree or M.Arch degree at the CUDC) and if you intend to include coursework in Europe or China as part of your program of study.

Applicants to the Master of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design (MSAED) must submit a two page Statement of Purpose and Proposal of Study. The two pages must include educational and career goals and research interests and a proposed course of study.

Graduate Record Examinations:

For information on the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), please check: www.gre.org. Scores above 151(460) verbal reasoning, 150 (620) quantitative reasoning and 4.25 analytical writing will give an applicant good chances of admission. Note: GRE is not required for the MHCD degree application.

Letters of Recommendation:

Submit letters of recommendation completed by persons who are familiar with your educational goals and your ability to achieve them (at least three, one of which from a non academic source, preferably professional). The format may be a letter and/or the Recommendation Form, which can be downloaded from the Graduate Studies Forms Library.

International Applicants:

Please review the information on the Kent State University Office of Global Education website regarding international graduate student admissions. For applicants who must complete language proficiency testing as part of the application, the minimum required language proficiency scores for the College of Architecture and Environmental Design are:

With the exception of the portfolio, please submit all application materials electronically via this page on the Graduate Studies website: http://www.kent.edu/graduatestudies/prospectivestudents/submit-application-documents.cfm

Deadlines

The application deadline for Fall admission is February 1 for ALL materials for the following degree programs:

  • Master of Architecture degree (M.Arch)
  • Master of Architecture and Master of Business Administration (M.Arch/MBA) dual degree
  • Master of Architecture and Master of Urban Design (M.Arch/MUD) dual degree
  • Master of Urban Design (MUD) degree

The application deadline for Fall admission is June 1 for ALL materials for the following degree programs:

  • Master of Science in Architecture and Environmental Design degree (MSAED)
  • Master of Health Care Design degree (MHCD)
  • Master of Landscape Architecture degrees (MLA I & MLA II)

Assistantships

Those applying for Graduate or Teaching Assistantship, must complete the Application for Graduate Assistantship form, which is downloadable from the Graduate Studies Forms Library. Completed assistantship applications may be submitted online along with the other application materials.
