MTEC Degree: Specialization in Manufacturing Systems
The Manufacturing Systems option allows students to take advanced courses in manufacturing, project management, quality improvement, and reliability. The program prepares students to be successful and to advance within various engineering- and technology-related careers in business, government, and industry.
The Manufacturing Systems program provides a combination of courses that provide knowledge, skills, and practical experience associated with manufacturing techniques and processes; materials; sustainable systems; quality concepts; procedures, practices, and tools used in engineering and technology; and product development in a manufacturing environment.
This option is especially valuable for individuals currently working in business and industry positions who are looking to further their education and enhance their careers
Master of Technology students specializing in Manufacturing Systems are required to complete a minimum of 33 credit hours of course work as indicated below:
Twelve credit hours of Technology core courses are required.
Manufacturing Systems Technology Courses
A minimum of 15 credit hours of course work should be taken from the following list:

- TECH 63870 - Facility Design and Material Handling
- TECH 65400 - Evaluating Quality Systems Through Process Control
- TECH 65700 - Applied Reliability Engineering
- TECH 65800 - Burn-In/Stress Testing for Reliability
- A cumulative graduate GPA of 3.00 is required for graduation.
- A minimum of 21 credit hours of coursework must be taken in TECH or AERN courses.
- A minimum of 18 credit hours in 60000-level or above coursework is required.
- A maximum of four credit hours of Workshop coursework may be used to satisfy the degree requirements.
- A maximum of nine credit hours in Technology Individual Investigation coursework may be used to satisfy the degree requirements.
- Six credits total for thesis (TECH 61199: Thesis I) will be counted if the thesis option is chosen.
