Combined Bachelor's & Master's

Students who are currently in a Bachelor's program at Kent State University and have a very good undergraduate record may want to consider the university's Combined Bachelor's and Master's program.  This program allows an undergraduate student to take up to 12 hours of graduate coursework and count those hours toward both degrees, typically as electives in the undergraduate program.  The result is that the student essentially saves approximately an entire semester of tuition and time.

Students who are interested in the combined program should apply early.  The application process takes time, and must be completed before the student can enroll in the graduate courses that will be double-counted.  The application process is as follows:

  • Verify that you meet the GPA requirements for the Combined Bachelor's and Master's program based on the number of semester hours that you have completed.
  • Apply to the Master's program online.  You will typically need to submit college transcripts (a Kent State transcript is not required for current Kent State students), a resume, a goal statement, and contact information for three people who will serve as references.  More detailed information on applying to the Master of Digital Sciences degree is available on the School's Graduate webpage.
  • Simultaneously apply to the Combined Bachelor's and Master's program via the form available online from Graduate Studies.  On this form, you will have to list the Master's courses to be applied toward the Bachelor's degree, so you should consult with your undergraduate advisor and the graduate coordinator for the Master's program before completing and submitting the form.  For the Master of Digital Sciences degree, consult Robert Walker, Director of the School of Digital Sciences as the graduate coordinator.
