Anne E. Lynn Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship will be awarded in the spring semester and credited to the student's account in the Bursar's office for the fall semester.

Criteria:

  1. Recipient must be a full-time or part-time student pursuing an Undergraduate or Graduate degree in teacher education
  2. First preference will be given to a female of non-traditional age (30 years or older)
  3. Preference given to a member of Kappa Delta Pi

Claire Yost Anderson Endowed Scholarship

The Claire Yost Anderson Endowed Scholarship is awarded to a graduate student who has the goal to promote social inclusion and connections through teaching in American schools of diverse economic, racial, or cultural census.

Criteria:

  1. Must be a full-time student
  2. Must be enrolled as a Graduate Student in the College of Education, Health and Humans Services in one of the following degree programs:
  • Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction – Physical Education Teacher Education
  • Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with a concentration in Art, Dance or Music

Clara H. Lloyd Scholarship in Early Childhood Development and Special Education

This award is intended to encourage students who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals, and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress. This scholarship will be awarded annually to either a single student or a number of students based on the recommendations of the committee. Selection of the recipient normally will be made in the spring semester with the award to be effective the following academic year.

Criteria:

  1. Graduate students working with students in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Special Education
  2. Recipients must have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 during the last 60 hours of completed undergraduate courses. However, students with prior relevant experiences and high financial need may be considered

Ethel Mary Kotis Scholarship Award (Early/Middle Childhood Majors)

Criteria:

  1. Must be a  junior or senior and be enrolled in classes in Spring 2015
  2. Will have completed one semester as an Early Childhood/Middle Childhood Education major by the application deadline
  3. Evidence a commitment to Early Childhood/Middle Childhood Education
  4. Actively participate in the educational process
  5. Are a full-time, female student
  6. Preference given to a student who demonstrates financial need (current FAFSA will be used to determine need)

Harry V. & Lucille K. Workman Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded each semester to undergraduate or graduate students in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education.

Application Deadline:  November 1 for Spring award; February 14 for Fall award

Criteria:

  1. Must be enrolled as a student in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services
  2. Must be enrolled as one of the following:
  • Undergraduate - Special Education - Deaf Education (BSE degree for teacher licensure, must have already been admitted to advanced study)
  • Graduate - Deaf Education Special Education Masters Program (MA or M.Ed. degree for teacher licensure)

Application process:  Print and complete the scholarship application. 

ON A SEPARATE SHEET OF PAPER, LIST or DESCRIBE:

  1. List the deaf education courses you have taken to date, with your GPA
  2. An explanation of why this scholarship is important to your continuation in the deaf & hard of hearing education program
  3. Information about your financial hardship, and reasons why you are someone deserving of this scholarship

Linda S. Booth Endowed Scholarship

The Linda S. Booth Endowed Scholarship is available to a deserving, junior level student who is enrolled in a teacher education major in the College of EHHS.

Criteria:

  1. Must be enrolled in a teacher education program in the College of Education, Health and Human Services
  2. Must have junior status (60 to 89 earned hours during the semester in which they receive the scholarship)
  3. Must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA

Marlene and Alan Evans Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship

Marlene and Alan Evans are retired educators living in Kent, Ohio. Marlene Evans graduated from Mount Union College and completed a M.Ed. at Kent State University. She served as a teacher and principal in Oho public schools. Alan Evans graduated from Antioch College and completed a M.A. and Ph.D. in Education at The Ohio State University. He served as a classroom teacher in several public schools, an administrator at OSU, and as an administrator and professor at Kent State University.

Criteria:

  1. enrolled in a teacher education program in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services
  2. an African American student from Ohio, with a preference for a graduate from Kent Roosevelt High School
  3. high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  4. potential for strong leadership as demonstrated through service and extracurricular activities
  5. good verbal and written communication skills
  6. demonstration of financial need. Your current FAFSA information will be used to determine eligibility

Phyllis Consoli Stevens Education Scholarship

The Phyllis Consoli Stevens Education Scholarship has been established by Anthony Stevens to preserve the legacy of his mom, Phyllis Consoli Stevens who attended Kent State Normal College from 1925 – 1929. Born in Italy, she arrived in the US as an infant after spending 17 days at sea on a steamship that sailed from Naples. She was the first in her generation and family to attend college. 

Criteria:

  1. Must be enrolled as a student in the College of Education, Health and Human Services (EHHS) 
  2. Preference will be given to students enrolled as Early Childhood Education majors and 1st generation college students

The Robert and Susie Urban Harris Scholarship was established to support students majoring in Deaf Education.

Rosemary Amos Memorial Scholarship

Rosemary Rita Amos, Ed.D., M.P.H was a faculty member in the Department of Allied Health Sciences (now Health Education and Promotion) from 1970 to 1978 at Kent State University. She was the department's first chairperson , holding the position from 1970 to 1974. She was not only a fine teacher, but her generosity was known to a number of students.

Criteria:

  1. Must be an Undergraduate student (FR/SO/JR/SR) enrolled in a Health Education program with a commitment to human service
  2. Must demonstrate financial need (Your current FAFSA information will be used to determine eligibility)
  3.  Must be a Kent Campus student

Stanley & Deborah Gudel May 4th Memorial Scholarship

Deb and Stan Gudel are both graduates of Kent State University's Education program.  Both were at KSU during the events of May 4th and believe those events have impacted their lives.  The Stanley & Deborah Gudel May 4th Memorial Scholarship is available to a deserving student pursuing a teacher education license.

STRS Teacher Education Scholarship

Recipients of this scholarship shall be selected on the basis of the following criteria: 

  1. Recipient must be a student in a teacher licensure program in the College of Education, Health and Human Services
  2. Must have a minimum  3.25 Undergraduate or 3.6 Graduate GPA.
  3. Student must demonstrate leadership and community service.

Study Abroad Scholarship (College of EHHS)

The College of Education, Health and Human Services Study Abroad Scholarship is available to a deserving student who is enrolled in a a major in the College of EHHS who is registered in an approved Kent State Study Abroad program.

Criteria:

  1. Must be a student enrolled in the College of Education, Health and Human Services as an Integrated Language Arts major or a School Counseling major

  2. The scholarship is renewable through graduation provided the student remains an Integrated Language Arts major or a School Counseling major, has maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA and is in overall good standing at the college and university level (no judicial incidents or negative dispositions assessments).

William A. Bricker Memorial Award

The William A. Bricker Memorial Award was established in memory of Professor Bricker, a pioneer in Special Education. The purpose of the award is to recognize a promising senior undergraduate student in Special Education who exemplifies the commitment to scholarship and service on behalf of persons with disabilities to which Professor William A. Bricker dedicated his professional life.

Criteria:

  1. Must be enrolled as a student in the College of Education, Health and Human Services (EHHS)
  2. Must be a senior level undergraduate enrolled in the Special Education or Intervention Specialist program.
  3. Must be in good academic standing

The amount of the scholarship varies.
