Anne E. Lynn Memorial Scholarship

Aikey Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is available for early or middle childhood education majors who have at least a 3.0 GPA and live in Berea, Brookpark, Middleburg Heights, Strongsville, or Lorain County in Ohio and are a U.S. citizen. This scholarship will pay full tuition for four years for initial bachelor degree students at Kent State University. This scholarship is for both incoming and continuing students.

Application process is open from January 15th through April 1st each year.

Alicia and John Pieper Endowed Scholarship

This award was established in 2008 to support Kent State University students majoring in Human Development & Family Studies with a preference for those taking classes at or transferring from the Stark Campus.  This award is intended to encourage students who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals, and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress. Certificate will be presented along with a $500 scholarship.

Recipients shall be selected on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Individual's motivation, ability, and potential
  • Demonstrated leadership on campus and in the community
  • Must be majoring in Human Development and Family Studies
  • Preference for students taking coursework at or transferring from the Stark Campus

Alumni Future Teacher Scholarship

The College of Education Alumni Future Teacher Scholarship is awarded to juniors and returning seniors majoring in Adolescence/Young Adult, Early Childhood Education, Intervention Specialist, Middle Childhood Education, or Career & Technical Education and planning to pursue a career in teaching are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average and have completed 64 or more hours to be considered for this scholarship. To be considered for the scholarship, individuals must complete the on-line Kent State University Student Financial Aid Scholarship Application.

Alumni Professional Promise Award

The College of Education Alumni Professional Promise Award is awarded to students officially declared in undergraduate teacher licensure majors. Available to seniors who have completed 96 or more hours and who will graduate by the end of the academic year. To be considered for the award individuals must complete the on-line Kent State University Student Financial Aid Scholarship Application.

BECOME Scholarship

Charles A. Grigas Scholarship

Charles A. Grigas was a longtime trade and industrial teacher in the Cleveland Public School System. The purpose of this scholarship is to award worthy students in the Career Technical Teacher Education program at Kent State University. This is a need based scholarship for both undergraduate and graduate students, with priority given to undergraduate students. Financial reimbursement is to be used to offset the cost of instruction of college coursework leading to degree requirements.

Criteria:

  • Must be a trade and industrial education student at   Kent State University who has successfully completed 24 semester hours of CTTE coursework with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Amount of award(s) to be determined by the Scholarship Committee based upon the number of applicants, merit, service to the profession and amount of money available.
  • Awards are renewable but not automatic.
  • Members of Iota Lambda Sigma (Delta Chapter) will receive preference.

Charles S. and Caroline D. Cibella Education Scholarship

Clara H. Lloyd Scholarship in Early Childhood Development and Special Education

This award is intended to encourage students who have demonstrated the capacity to achieve educational and professional goals, the motivation to achieve these goals, and the initiative to seek opportunities to further their progress. This scholarship will be awarded annually to either a single student or a number of students based on the recommendations of the committee.

  • Graduate students working with students in Early Childhood or Early Childhood Special Education
  • Recipients must have a minimum grade point average of 2.75 during the last 60 hours of completed undergraduate courses. However, students with prior relevant experiences and high financial need may be considered

Doris Irmiter Graduate Scholarship for HDFS

This $500 scholarship is intended to support graduate study in Human Development and Family Studies.

This scholarship was established in 2010 to provide assistance to graduate students in the field of Human Development and Family Studies. One award will be made annually to a student enrolled in the M.A. program in HDFS. The award will be $500.

Dorothy Fruit Gerontology Student Scholarship

This award was established in 1993 to recognize Dorothy Fruit, former Director of the School of Family and Consumer Studies.  In 1998 Ruth Beck, mother of Dorothy Fruit, endowed this scholarship. The scholarship recognizes an outstanding junior majoring in HDFS with a concentration in Gerontology. One $500 scholarship will be awarded.

Emeriti Faculty Scholarship Award

This scholarship is funded by the Emeriti Faculty of this college. This is a group of distinguished former faculty members who have a long and important history with this college.  They wish to continue to demonstrate the value they place on learning, and their steadfast commitment to the college and its students. This gift is to encourage this college's students to continually pursue the highest levels of distinction and public service.

Only two scholarships will be awarded per academic year, one at the graduate level and one at the senior or junior level. The amount of the scholarship may vary from year to year, dependent upon monies generated through College of Education, Health, and Human Services Emeriti donations. Graduate students and junior/seniors across the College's six units are eligible to apply.

Criteria:

Esther H. Strickland Student Teaching Grant

Alpha Delta State of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is pleased to offer financial assistance to selected students who are engaged in the pre-service teaching experience. 

Award: Student teaching grants for college seniors in education in state supported colleges and universities at $1,000 per recipient.

Eligibility: The college student has applied to one of the state universities in Ohio to student teach within the time frame of the August 2014- June 2015 academic year.

Requirements: To be considered applicants must complete the application process.  This includes:

  1. The completed application form.
  2. Two professional letters of recommendation.  The letters should address the   applicant’s present grade point average and other qualifications.  At least one letter must be from a professor   from a course the applicant has taken. Letters should be on official   letterhead stationery and include the date, signature and official title   of the individual providing the recommendation.  Please, address letters to the Chairman   of the Scholarship and Grants Committee, Alpha Delta State.
  3. Most recent copy of official college or university transcripts.

Greater Cleveland Chapter of Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) - Future Club Manager Scholarship

This award was established to financially support members of the Kent State University CMAA Student Chapter who are pursuing a bachelor degree. One $300 scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants each year depending on available funds.

Criteria:

  • Member of Kent State CMAA Student Chapter for a minimum of one year with regular participation and leadership in Student Chapter meetings and other activities (Refer to bylaws for definition of member.)
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.50
  • Work experience in a club Full-time student at Kent State University pursuing a bachelor degree in a field of study   appropriate to support a career in club management.
  • A minimum of one semester remaining before graduation is required.

This scholarship is awarded each semester to undergraduate or graduate students in Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education.

Criteria:

  1. Must be enrolled as a student in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services
  2. Must be enrolled as one of the following:

·         Undergraduate - Special Education - Deaf Education (BSE degree for teacher licensure, must have already been admitted to advanced study)

·         Graduate - Deaf Education Special Education Masters Program (MA or M.Ed. degree for teacher licensure)

Criteria:

  • Junior or senior standing and enrolled full-time during the academic year the award is activated
  • Declared as an Early Childhood Education or Middle Childhood Education major within the College of Education, Health and Human Services
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA
  • As it is the donor's intent to encourage and support non-traditional students, first preference will be given to qualified mature applicants at least 30 years old who have entered the University after other life experiences and meets the above criteria
  • Students attending Regional Campuses are encouraged to apply and will be given equal consideration to applicants applying from the Kent Campus.

Restrictions:

This scholarship normally shall be awarded once annually to one or more recipients. Selection of the recipient(s) normally will be made in spring semester with the award to be effective the following fall semester. The amount of the award(s) varies each year and is credited during the tuition payment process.

The Lewis Business Education Scholarship is awarded to one student annually. Preference is given to an undergraduate pursuing Integrated Business licensure. All College of Education, Health and Human Services students majoring in Instructional Technology or Career & Technical Education are encouraged to apply. To be considered for the award individuals must complete the on-line 2009-2010 Kent State University Student Financial Aid Scholarship Application.

Marlene and Alan Evans are retired educators living in Kent, Ohio. Marlene Evans graduated from Mount Union College and completed a M.Ed. at Kent State University. She served as a teacher and principal in Oho public schools. Alan Evans graduated from Antioch College and completed a M.A. and Ph.D. in Education at The Ohio State University. He served as a classroom teacher in several public schools, an administrator at OSU, and as an administrator and professor at Kent State University.

For the past twenty years the Medina County Retired Teachers Association has offered two $500.00 cash scholarships annually to graduates of Medina County, Ohio, high schools who are committed to careers in education and will be juniors or seniors in the college the following fall.  All scholarship funds are "donated" by the individual members of our association.

Pat Eva Crisci Scholarship

The Pat Eva Crisci Scholarship is awarded annually to one PreK-12 Educational Administration (EDAD) or Higher Education Administration & Student Personnel (HIED), Ph.D. student.  Applications are disseminated through email once per academic year (early spring term), with the award recipient selected later in the term. The applicant must be a current student in good standing within one of the two programs and have no more than 18 credit hours of course work remaining on the plan of study (current semester included).  

The recipient will receive a plaque reflecting receipt of the award as well as a $1,000 monetary scholarship, and have his or her name added to a larger plaque (Ohio map) located prominently outside the EDAD/Foundation, Leadership, and Administration offices.  The amount of the scholarship will be determined by the EDAD & HIED program faculty based on the availability of funds. Criteria used in the selection process include the following: 

  • Intent to seek full-time employment in a college or   university upon graduation or soon thereafter (i.e., within two years) as either an EDAD or HIED faculty member
  • Academic preparation for the professorate--advanced courses, minors, course concentrations, certificates, licensure
  • Record of publication, research, and scholarship
  • National, regional, & state conference presentations
  • Success in acquiring grants
  • Prior higher education teaching and service; and most importantly
  • Potential to achieve excellence and prominence as a professor.

Phyllis Consoli Stevens Education Scholarship

The Phyllis Consoli Stevens Education Scholarship has been established by Anthony Stevens to preserve the legacy of his mom, Phyllis Consoli Stevens who attended Kent State Normal College from 1925 – 1929. Born in Italy, she arrived in the US as an infant after spending 17 days at sea on a steamship that sailed from Naples. She was the first in her generation and family to attend college.

Richard and Jo Anne Vacca Fellowship for Teachers of Literacy

This fellowship was established to support practicing teachers enrolled in the master's degree program in Reading Specialization at Kent State University.  This award assists teachers in their goals to earn a master's degree and improve literacy instruction in Northeast Ohio.  The fellowship will be awarded annually for a summer session, three-credit graduate level course.  The fellowship is a one-time, non-renewable award.

Recipients will be selected by the faculty affiliated with the Reading and Writing Center at Kent State University based on the following preferred criteria:

  • Employed as a full-time teacher in Northeast Ohio

Rosemary Amos Memorial Scholarship

Rosemary Rita Amos, Ed.D., M.P.H was a faculty member in the Department of Allied Health Sciences (now Health Education and Promotion) from 1970 to 1978 at Kent State University. She was the department's first chairperson, holding the position from 1970 to 1974. She was not only a fine teacher, but her generosity to known to a number of students. This scholarship is need based and offered to undergraduate students majoring in the area of Health Education.

Salute to Excellence Award (Hospitality Management Scholarship)

Each year two students are selected to represent the Hospitality Management Program at Kent State University at the National Restaurant Association's Annual Salute to Excellence program in Chicago.  The program consists of a day-long workshop and a recognition dinner.  One OR Two awards of $500 will be given each year .  Students selected must be committed to attending the National Restaurant Association Show in Chicago.  Expenses for the trip may exceed the amount of the award, depending on time spent in Chicago and selected transportation.

The criteria are as follows:

  • Students must be a declared major in Hospitality Management
  • Junior standing in the program after Spring term (cannot be graduating sooner than the December following attendance at the Salute to Excellence)
  • Minimum grade point average of 2.70
  • Work experience in Hospitality Industry
  • Leadership activities
