What year/s did you graduate (or plan to) and which program(s) did you complete?
I entered Cultural Foundations in 2011 and plan to graduate in 2016/17
What shaped your decision to start the Cultural Foundations program?
I have been looking for a program that could help me mesh together my experiences working in development work together with teaching. I founded and ran a center for street children in Tanzania during the mid 1990s and early 2000s. I then got my Master's in Education and taught 2nd and 3rd grade in an International School in Tanzania.
What has been your most significant professional and/or educational accomplishment?
So far, I feel my most successful professional accomplishments have been: 1. co-founding, directing and and chairing the board to a center for street children ( www.mkombozi.org) 2. becoming fluent in the IBPYP (International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program) and capable of teaching a diverse body of students.
Are you currently employed, and if so, where?
I am not employed currently. I am a full-time student and single mother of three...that keeps me busier than I ever have been.
What are your future plans after graduation?
I would like to work in 'development', either at a foundation or aid agency or within a university program that is looking at bridging the gap between policy and practice. I am passionate about Africa, education, girls/women rights and would like to find a way to blend these passions and expertise into career that contributes to social justice in some way.
Favorite course and/or faculty member?
I have enjoyed EVERY course I have taken so far. I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to work Dr. Seeberg, who I share similar interests and has helped me turn my practices into scholarly work.
