Educational Psychology Course Descriptions

EPSY 6/75520 CHILD & ADOLESCENT DEVELOPMENT  

This course examines human development and learning from the prenatal period through adolescence. Child and adolescent development is examined across a variety of domains (e.g., neurological, perceptual, cognitive, emotional, social, and emotional).  The course materials are drawn heavily from peer-reviewed scholarly articles. Translating basic research to applied settings, particularly educational settings, is emphasized in the course.

EPSY 6/75521 ADULT DEVELOPMENT

An examination of human development focusing on early through late adulthood. This course investigates human development and learning across a variety of domains (e.g., perceptual, cognitive, social, emotional) within different contexts (e.g., families, cultures). The course emphasizes recent research findings that carry implications for educators and related professionals in various settings.

EPSY 6/75523 LIFE SPAN DEVELOPMENT

An investigation of human development across lifespan from conception to death. This course emphasizes pluralistic determinants of individual growth within changing environmental contexts.  Applications of basic research to educational and human service practices are emphasized.

EPSY 6/75524 LEARNING THEORIES

Theories of learning with special emphasis on application to professional practice. A critical examination of the processes associated with learning.

EPSY 6/75529 EDUCATIONAL MOTIVATION

Explores various theories of motivation and how they apply to today’s students.  Techniques for enhancing student motivation levels are reviewed.

EPSY 6/78901 PSYCHOLOGICAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

Overview of human development and its implications for educational policy, programming, and practice.

EPSY 6/78905 EDUCATIONAL PSYCHOLOGY

This course examines the major findings in the field of Educational Psychology, including a review of the major theories and recent empirical research.  The course emphasizes an examination of major research findings, their application to instructional practice, evaluation of instructional effectiveness, and implications for professional development.

EPSY 87450  PSYCHOLOGICAL PRINCIPLES OF EDUCATION

Explores the cognitive processes involved in the acquisition, storage, retrieval and application of knowledge. Students are required to develop a research project, which utilizes technology to test psychological theories about learning and instruction.
