LDES Faculty, Student, & Program Highlights

In August of 2014, the Computer/Technology Endorsement licensure program received national accreditation from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), the professional organization that reviews licensure programs for the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).  Here are some of the summary comments about the Endorsement program from the accreditation report:

  • The Instructional Technology program is characterized by strong leadership.
  • The university shows evidence of a very strong technology-oriented program.
  • It is evident that Kent State University pays very close attention to its professional development program and program evaluation.

Dr. Pamela Luft is the JPED Research Reviewer of the Year. The Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability (JPED) is the official journal of the Association on Higher Education and Disability, and serves as a resource to professionals dedicated to the advancement of full participation in higher education for persons with disabilities. The journal is the leading forum for scholarship in the field of postsecondary disability support services.

Dr. Marty Jencius assumed the role of president of the 2700 member Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) this last July. He has started initiatives where ACES members will address honoring their legacy, the teaching of counseling, supporting field supervisors, and looking at counselor education from an international worldview.

Dr. Gregory C. Smith has been appointed by the National Institutes of Health to serve as a member of the Community-Level Health Promotion (CLHP) Study Section, Center for Scientific Review for a six year term. The CLHP Study Section reviews clinical applications that test the efficacy and effectiveness of community-level interventions which focus on preventing or moderating health risks and/or adherence to disease treatments across the lifespan.

Brooke Holbaugh one of our May 2013 grads, hired at the Ohio School for the Deaf, is one of the finalists for Teacher of the Year through Sorenson (the major video relay service for the deaf in the country). This is pretty amazing in and of itself, but also because this was her first year of teaching! http://www.sorensonvrs.com/august_2014_teachers_of_year
