Clinical Experience

Student teaching is considered the culminating experience
in the student's teacher education program.

Student teachers are provided opportunities to observe a variety of  teachers, to apply educational theory, to demonstrate their disposition for teaching and to practice the knowledge and skills deemed essential for effective, professional practice within a supportive learning environment for all children.

It is a partnership between our cooperating teachers, our student teachers, and our supervisors.

Mike Englert
Introducing the New Director: Mike Englert

Mr. Knapp retired on March 7 after serving as Director of Clinical Field Experience since January of 2009. The following is from Mr. Englert:

Kent State University is highly recognized in the field of Education for their work with Teacher Training and professional development.  Having had the opportunity to work in the Education profession for many years as both a classroom teacher and a school administrator, I am excited to have the opportunity to join the KSU team as the Director of Clinical Experience and Community Partnerships.

As a former high school teacher and coach, I learned how important the role of a classroom teacher can be in providing a positive influence for students, as well as providing students with the skills necessary to be successful members of their community.  As a former building Principal, I learned how important it is to provide training and professional development opportunities for Teachers, as well as providing vision and leadership for delivering high standards in curriculum and instruction.  Finally, as a former Human Resource Director and Assistant Superintendent, I learned how important the role of the school district can be to its community and the necessity to promote a positive school environment that supports a true 'partnership' with parents, area businesses, and community leaders.

I hope to bring to Kent State University a broad range of experience in the field of Education, and I look forward to working with our students, Faculty, Advisors, and my professional colleagues in providing the kind of vision and guidance that is expected of a world class university.

Michael T. Englert
