IMAGE: studying abroad
University opportunities abroad used to be an impossible luxury for most students, but now, if you plan to work in the global economy, it may be an advantage in the job market, or even a requirement for some careers. The Certificate program offers students an opportunity to explore the world while learning and indispensable skill.
The Department of English sponsors several opportunities to learn about TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) abroad. One type of opportunity is the Certificate program, which is available at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Our main opportunity for teaching abroad is in Dresden, Germany, and that is where the Certificate programs take place. All of the Certificate students teach and study in Germany for one to three months.
Our BA-TESL and MA-TESL have additional opportunities to teach abroad at one of several partner institutions in Japan, Germany, and Turkey. Some MA-TESL students elect to do their practicums in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Here students stay with local families and teach.
For more information on which experience would be best for you, please see this chart comparing the different programs.
