Graduate Program of Study:Political Science
Degree: PhD
Current Employment: Voting Rights Researcher in the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law

The academic achievement of which Bridgett is most proud is completing her doctorate degree at Kent State University.  "I chose KSU because of the financial resources that the university provided and the support system that was in place for graduate students of color."

She now aspires to secure a tenure-track faculty position and to continue conducting research that has real-world implications, particularly in the area of voting rights.  Bridgett hopes that her research will contribute to the way we understand democracy and political participation in the United States.  "In that regard, I see research as not only something to be pursued to satisfy my own curiosity, but also something that is applicable to our everyday lives."

Bridgett asserts that Kent State University prepared her to be successful in her field by allowing her the freedom to discover her interests as a scholar.  "Throughout my coursework, I was encouraged to pursue a variety of research interests, some of which were more successful than others."  Bridgett acknowledges her advising committee, especially the chair, for being supportive throughout the process of writing her dissertation.   In fact, Bridgett's favorite aspects of her graduate experience were "the personal and professional relationships" she developed.

Currently, Bridgett enjoys exploring New York City, riding the subway, and going window shopping.  She wishes to provide the following advice for new graduate students: "Don't psyche yourself out.  Graduate school is new for everybody at some point.  Everybody gets confused.  Everybody gets frustrated.  Everybody gets overwhelmed, but it's important to stay focused and take advantage of all the resources Kent State has to offer."
