This year’s Awards Luncheon Speaker is Melody Tankersley, Ph.D., who currently serves as the Provost’s Fellow. As the Provost’s Fellow, Dr. Tankersley works closely with Provost Diacon to observe and engage directly as institutional leaders address issues critical to the success of Kent State University, such as strategic planning, faculty and student success, development and implementation of policy and procedures, and resource allocation.Prior to this appointment, Dr. Tankersley has served as Interim Department Chair and Program Coordinator in the College of Education, Health, and Human Services, where she holds rank as a professor in Special Education.
Dr. Tankersley’s expertise is in the development and treatment of emotional and behavioral disorders of children and youth. Her research focus is on identifying and implementing evidence-based practices in schools and homes to prevent and respond to children’s unsuccessful social behavior. Since joining the faculty in 1993, Dr. Tankersley has secured around $2 million of funding and published over 70 books, chapters, and articles on her academic areas of focus. Her academic work has been recognized internationally and she was most recently awarded the James M. Kauffman Publication Award for a scholarly work that results in knowledge leading to exemplary practice.
Dr. Tankersley earned her doctoral degree from the University of Virginia 1992 and was appointed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Kansas’s applied research center, Juniper Gardens Children’s Project. Dr. Tankersley currently serves on the Executive Board of the Division for Research of her learned society and is on the editorial review committees of four top-tier journals.
