Living-Learning Communities (LLC) at Kent State University are comprised of students living together who have similar academic and personal interests. Students, faculty, and staff choose to participate in these communities with the intended purpose of enhancing and enriching in-class instruction with focused out-of-class learning experiences. Community activities are geared to help students be successful, both in and out of the classroom. In some of the LLCs, residents take linked courses as well.

In Fall 2012, the average GPA for students in LLCs was 2.98 compared to 2.85 for students living on-campus

but not in a Living-Learning Community. LLC students completed an average of 14.2 credit hours,

compared to 13.8 hours for those not in an LLC and 12.9 for those living off-campus.

For the 2011-12 academic year, the retention rate for first-year LLC students was 80%, compared to

The university’s overall freshman-to-sophomore retention rate of 77%.
