Public Relations

JMC offers a fully online Master's Degree Concentration in Public Relations program and an on-ground master's degree program in public relations.

The asynchronous, two-year online program offers concentrated seven-week courses designed for busy working professionals, as well as for students who wish to pursue careers in communications, whether at public relations and integrated marketing communications firms, non-profit agencies, or corporations.

JMC's on-ground Public Relations master's program is designed to accommodate the needs of students who wish to pursue a management-level career in the public relations or integrated marketing communications fields. The on-ground program offers intense professional training with courses including Values and Ethics management, PR Online Tactics, and Media Relations and Publicity. JMC's PR faculty offers a unique blend of scholarly research and real-world experience to give students the best learning environment possible.


Required Core Courses:

  • JMC 60000 Introduction to Graduate Studies in JMC - 3 hours

  • JMC 68000 Public Relations Theory and Ethical Practice - 3 hours

  • JMC 50016 Law for Advertising and Public Relations - 3 hours

  • JMC 60195 Values and Ethics Management - 3 hours

  • JMC 60007 Research Methods in Mass Communication - 3 hours (Thesis candidates)

  • JMC 68004 PR Measurement & ROI (Project candidates) - 3 hours

  • JMC 68001 Public Relations Management - 3 hours

  • JMC 60396 Master's Professional Project - 3 hours -OR- JMC 60199 Thesis I and 60299 Thesis II - 6 hours

50 percent of course work must be at the 60000 level.

50 percent of coursework must have JMC course numbers.

Professional Courses:

  • JMC 58001 Media Relations and Publicity - 3 hours

  • JMC 68008 Social Media and Public Relations - 3 hours

  • JMC 58003 Public Relations Online Tactics - 3 hours

Students can take an elective outside the school or special PR classes such as PR History when offered. A maximum of 3 credit hours from "workshops" is allowed.

  • JMC 66092 Internship* - 1 hour
