The School of Journalism and Mass Communication hosts a variety of lectures, workshops, events and activities throughout the year, and we welcome alumni and friends of JMC to join us.

The Poynter Kent State Media Ethics Workshop

The Poynter Workshop is an annual daylong ethics training program hosted by The Poynter Institute and Kent State University's Media Law Center for Ethics and Access of the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The fall workshop, "That's Entertainment?" is scheduled for Thursday, September 19, and will explore media ethics and the entertainment industry.

Homecoming and JMC Alumni Reception

Gather with fellow School of Journalism and Mass Communication alumni, family, friends and staff for food, fellowship and fun during Homecoming weekend.

Mark your calendars now for our annual Homecoming events that begin on the evening of Friday, October 4, with the annual presentation of the William D. Taylor Award, the most prestigious honor bestowed by JMC, and the Fast-Track Award, given to an alumna/alumnus who graduated not more than five years ago and is already having a huge impact in the communication industry. On Saturday, October 5, join us at the Hospitality Tent on East Main Street (in front of Franklin Hall), sponsored by the College of Communication and Information, to watch the Kent State Homecoming Parade. Enjoy coffee, cider, and good conversation. Then, move indoors for lunch in Franklin Hall, followed by the Homecoming Football Game (Kent State Golden Flashes versus our MAC Conference rivals from Northern Illinois. Robert G. McGruder Awards and Lecture

The Robert G. McGruder Award for Diversity lecture has become one of Kent State's most successful diversity events. The award recognizes the accomplishments of media professionals who encourage diversity in the field of journalism. The event is co-sponsored each spring by Kent State's School of Journalism and Mass Communication and the Division of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.

The 11th annual event is scheduled for Spring 2014. Learn more at 2013 award recipients.

Diversity Speaker Series

The Diversity Speaker Series brings high-impact, high-visibility communication professionals to JMC to exposes students to successful minorities who can serve as role models in the professions they are studying. We'll soon post news of the 2013-2014 academic year speakers.
