Request Course Permit
Having trouble registering for a MATH course?
If you are not able to register for a MATH class due to any of the following errors you may need to request a permit. Below are several common error messages that may prevent registration. Please be sure to check all the possibilities for the error BEFORE requesting a permit.
- Closed Class: If the class is filled to capacity please DO NOT request a permit. You can contact the Math department directly at (330)672-2430 for more information.
Prerequisite & Test Score Error: Be sure to check that you have taken all the prerequisite classes needed and passed these classes with the appropriate grade needed. To check the prerequisites needed for a course go to the Course Descriptions. If you tested into a higher MATH class or the class was transferred to Kent State then you will need to request a permit.
Degree/Major Error: Be sure to check that you are requesting a class at the same level as your current status. For example if you are an undergraduate you can not register for a graduate level class unless you have specific permission from the instructor. This permission needs to be communicated to the Math department office directly via email, campus phone or personally by the instructor before a permit will be issued.
- Time Conflict Error: Be sure to check your schedule for other classes that meet at the same time as the class you are requesting. Permits will not be issued without permission from the instructors of BOTH classes stating that it is acceptable to have the class time overlap. This permission needs to be communicated to the Math department office directly via email, campus phone or personally by the instructors before a permit will be issued.
If you have checked the issues associated with the specific error message you are receiving and you feel that you still require a permit you can fill out the PERMIT REQUEST FORM and submit it to the Mathematics Department. Also, if you have another problem that is not listed above then please request a permit and the Math department will look into the issue and contact you.
Once the permit has been placed on your account you will be notified by phone or email. Most requests are carried out within one day of the request.
