AUDITION INFORMATION FOR FALL SEMESTER, 2014
Auditions for string players will happen on Monday, August 25, and Wednesday, August 27, from 2:00-6:00 PM in Ludwig Recital Hall. Any KSU student who plays an orchestral instrument is welcome to audition. All string players who wish to play in the orchestra need to audition -- even if you were already a member in the previous semester.
Please click this link to schedule your audition time:
Your audition will consist of two required excerpts and some brief sight-reading. That's it. You do not need to prepare any additional solos for this audition. Links to the PDF files for each instrument are listed below.Violin Excerpts Fall 2014
How should you prepare for this audition?
Find recordings of the two pieces, if you don't already know them. Learn what the whole orchestra sounds like in each excerpt. Practice musically and expressively--not just technically. If you're completely unfamiliar with the idea of auditioning on orchestral excerpts, here's a brief article which offers some good preparation suggestions: http://www.violinexcerpts.com/preparing-for-auditions-how-to-practice/
Do you have a KSU friend who plays a string instrument and isn't already in the orchestra? Please forward this information to whomever you like--let's build up our numbers together!

The Kent State University Orchestra is one of the major performance ensembles in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music. It is composed of graduate and undergraduate music majors, as well as talented students in many other majors.
Each year, the orchestra performs a wide range of repertoire from the Baroque period to the present. The orchestra performs a Subscription Series of four performances, as well as the annual Evening with the Orchestra event. Soloists appearing with the orchestra include members of our performance faculty and winners of the annual Student Concerto Competition. Kent State choral ensembles often collaborate with the orchestra in the presentation of major works for chorus and orchestra. The Kent State Opera joins the orchestra in presenting a major opera each year.
