Undergraduate

The School of Music at the Kent Campus offers majors in Music Education and Music. Music majors can select concentrations in Performance or Composition. Music Education majors can choose either the Choral/General or Instrumental concentration.

The music minor on voice or selected instruments is available to students in other fields who desire private instruction in addition to ensemble participation.  The Jazz Studies Minor is available to students in other fields and to music majors.

Acceptance into these programs is determined by an audition.

The world music minor program provides concentrated study of traditional and popular world music (style, performance, history, cultural associations and related arts).  Students of any major can pursue this minor as part of their degree program.  An audition is not required.

Financial Aid

Music majors are eligible for scholarships and other forms of financial assistance from a variety of sources. While several of these programs are administered directly by the School of Music, others are coordinated by the Kent State University Office of Student Financial Aid, The Admissions Office or by the Honors College.

It is possible to receive combined assistance from more than one source. School of Music Continuing Scholarships and Orchestra Scholarships are determined as a result of an audition.
