This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.

An interdisciplinary team from library and information science, nursing, adult literacy, and communication studies investigated the contextual factors that explain the health information seeking decisions of older adults in northeastern and Appalachian Ohio. A 2 phase study was designed to answer the primary research question, what are the variables that affect health information seeking behaviors of older adults?  In phase 1 the issue was examined experimentally with a factorial survey that sampled older adults across 8 counties. In phase 2 the question was examined qualitatively with focus groups of professionals including librarians, community health care educators, and health literacy specialists.
