Community-Based Learning & Volunteerism

A teaching and learning strategy providing exposure to community-based environments that contributes to an understanding of organizations and real-world issues. Community-Based Learning often occurs in the form of field trips.  

Example: Students enrolled in an Introduction to Political Science course shadow local politicians to gain a better perspective on approaches to policy development.

Campus-Based Learning

A teaching and learning strategy providing exposure to campus resources whereby students gather and organize information and learn more about the campus community in effort to support the University’s mission.  Example: Students enrolled in a First Year Experience course volunteer in the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) to capture data on the number of students contributing volunteer hours through organized student groups on campus. The data will be utilized by CSI to conduct impact assessments.
