SAS| Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services | KSU

Welcome Student Accessibility Services' Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services. American Sign Language Interpretes and Real-Time Captionists are provided at no cost to students who qualify under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The Student Accessibility Services (SAS) office and students partner to maximize the benefit of this service. Staff and adjunct interpreters are located in the DeWeese Health Center - room 205.

Our commitment and mission is to provide quality interpreting, and accessible services to Kent State University students, faculty, staff and community.

Interpreters are professionals who facilitate communication between deaf, and hard of hearing persons and hearing individuals in a variety of settings. The role of an interpreter is similar to a foreign language interpreter: to bridge the communication gap between two parties. The professional interpreter is bound by the Code of Professional Conduct developed by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.

SAS employs three full time staff interpreters, two adjunct interpreters, a graduate assistant and numerous contract interpreters that collectively have NAD/RID certification and years of experience in K-12, post secondary, Video Remote Interpreting, community, business, high-profile, and platform venues.

In addition to providing interpreting services, SAS is committed to actively engaging in the ongoing enhancement of the interpreting profession and its interpreters to better serve our community through a variety of Interpreting Workshops.
