A librarian who specializes in services and collections for children up to the age of 12-13. Most children's librarians have extensive knowledge of children's literature and are trained in the art of storytelling. A children’s librarian also plans and executes activities for children such as story hours, programs, and reading initiatives such as a summer reading club or early literacy. Collection management, such as selecting and maintaining a current collection to meet a child’s educational and recreational needs is also an important part of the specialization.
