Transfer Student First Year Experience

  1. Is there an orientation program for transfer students?
  2. Are transfer students required to take the FYE course?
  3. Do transfer students participate in the Common Reading project?
  1. Is there an orientation for transfer students?
The Transfer Center requires incoming Kent Campus transfer students with 30 credit hours or less upon admission to participate in the Transfer Kent State: Orientation, Advising and Registration (TKS) program. Students can review their Next Steps checklist in Flashline to check their orientation requirement status. Students will also receive an invitational email from the Transfer Center which will include TKS registration information. Please visit www.kent.edu/transfercenter and your Flashline account regularly for more information. Regional campuses may offer transfer orientation as well, so visit http://www.kent.edu/campuses for additional information.

All Kent Campus transfer students are also welcome to participate in Welcome Weekend events at the start of the Fall semester. Visit http://www.kent.edu/success/futurestudents/index.cfm for more information.

  2. Are transfer students required to take the FYE course?
Transfer students with 24 credit hours or less will register for the First Year Experience course, US 10097. This is a one credit hour, graded course that will help you transition to the university. There are special sections of the course for Exploratory transfer students as well as Adult students.

  3. Do transfer students participate in the Common Reading project?
Transfer students who are required to take the FYE course are also required to participate in the Common Reading program, although we encourage all incoming transfer students to read the book. The book will be discussed during the first FYE class session that occurs during Welcome Weekend. To learn more about the book that has been chosen, the program goals, and homework assignment, please visit Common Reading.
