Choosing a Minor is not Necessarily a Minor Matter

The right minor can not only illuminate your major; it can illuminate your resumes and applications, cueing others in to the distinct individual you are,
your commitments and values, the direction(s) of your life.

Any minor will provide you an area of specialization and concentration. A Women’s Studies Minor, as an interdisciplinary pursuit,
offers you a chance not only to explore subjects across a range of disciplines—relevant, provocative, probing ideas and issues—
but also to delve into theories, perspectives and special topics within the program.
A Women’s Studies Minor will complement virtually any major field of study.
And we allow our students to pursue their own interests within the structure of our Minor Program.

The College of Arts and Sciences awards certificates of achievement to students who successfully complete interdisciplinary minors.

Advising for Minors

  • Advice Spot 1. Students with an interest in Women’s Studies are encouraged to send an email to the Director—
Suzanne L. Holt ( – and, if they desire, request an appointment to chat about the Program.
  • Advice Spot 2. Students within the College of Arts and Sciences should visit the advising office (105 Bowman Hall)
of the College of Arts and Sciences for information; Students outside A&S should visit their home offices.
  • Advice Spot 3. Students should consult with their major advisors to select courses that will best complement their major programs.
Minors as well as majors must be formally declared in the college office.

Students who are pursuing a major degree program outside the College of Arts and Sciences should contact their school or college to declare these minors.
